Majority of composite structures assemblies on naval ships, and more particularly on submarines, is currently carried out by screwing. The bolt usually used is mainly in metallic materials (stainless steel coated or not). The feedback of the maintenance of the ships reveals difficulties with fretting or corrosion of the threaded elements. One of the solutions identified to improve the performance of ships is to use bolts in composite materials. The aim of the study is to assess the interest of composite materials for bolt. The advantage of composite fasteners for joints subjected to dynamic loads is first demonstrated by analytical approach of the mechanical behaviour of prestressed assemblies. Then, finite element modelling, facilitating parametric study was conducted on a representative assembly. Finally, an experimental study is presented to evaluate the allowable levels of loading by bolt in composite materials.
