Symposium on the marine pollution regulations until 2012
The presentation describes the combination of technical and operational measures aimed at making the A.P. Moller-Maersk fleet among the most environmentally friendly while ensuring cost-effective operation. Current emission levels and foreseen future trends are provided on the basis of the developments for existing vessels and planned newbuildings, with particular focus on container vessels. Through the introduction of new technology, a modernized fleet and focus on fuel efficiency during operations, emission levels have decreased significantly per TEU carried over the past years. Further innovative, emission reduction developments related to hull and machinery systems are targeted at retrofitting on board existing vessels and at application in new vessels. Besides design optimization and technology implementation, operational measures contribute to minimizing fuel consumption, e.g. ultra low load steaming, waste heat recovery optimization, antifouling, ballasting and voyage planning.
