Visit to Paris model basin: one hundred years of submarine hydrodynamics

In 2006, Bassin d’essais des carènes celebrated the centennial of its founding and a couple years ago, DCN Cherbourg celebrated one hundred years of submarine design and construction. It is interesting to establish the link between these two events and to revisit one hundred years of submarine hydrodynamics at Bassin d’essais des carènes. This presentation briefly relates this parallel history, which starts with the birth of Bassin d’essais des carènes at a time when the debate opposing submarines and submersibles was going strong.
