The Technological Research and Innovation Network RITMER was created by the French Ministry of research in 2001 after the ERIKA oil spill, in order to structure the French research, and to develop links between public and private research on the domain of the fight against accidental pollution. After a short recall of the network organization and objectives which have been presented at the 2002 ATMA session, a balance is given followed by a presentation of a sample of 7 projects amongst the 25 labeled projects since 2001. These 7 projects concern the remote sensing of sunken oil, the thermal treatment of oily waste, the oil biodegradation parameters, the behavior of chemical products at sea . In addition to the national actions, contacts, exchanges and projects which have been developed with foreign countries are presented, in particular with Spain and Japan. In conclusion, the future priorities for the French research determined during two seminars organized in 2003 on detection devices and probes, and in 2004,on innovative tools and methods for the response in coastal areas are developed.
