This paper describes the marine operations performed offshore Libya by DORIS Engineering for the installation of the FARWAH, a FPSO fitted with an external mooring turret on her bow. These operations spanned over two years, the pre-installation of the mooring system being performed during summer 2002, whereas the connection of the FPSO was achieved in spring 2003.
The specificity of these marine operations results from the laying of the mooring anchors, made difficult by the soil constitution, and from the tensioning of the mooring lines once connected onboard the FPSO. These last operations required the development of specific equipment in order to cope with the limited space available at the bow of the vessel, this in turn resulting from the choice made by DORIS Engineering to design a small size turret in order to optimize the loads induced in the vessel structure.
