FPSO for the CPTL 1378 field in Libya

Jean PÉPIN LEHALLEUR, DORIS Engineering

The 137 B field is an offshore field laying in 83 m water depth, at 160 Ian from Tripoli (Libya).

It will be operated by CPTL (Compagnie des Petroles TOTAL Libye) and will include a fixed steel wellhead platform with 16 wells, normally un-manned and a FPSO.

This FPSO has a storage capacity of 900 000 barrels, treats 30 000 BOPD (the effluent contains some H2S), and ensures the offloading to 130 000 DWT shuttle tankers, at a rate of 5000 cu.m/h. It includes living quarters for 50 people, from where the wellhead platform is remote-controlled.

The project had foreseen the conversion of a second-hand tanker. The Erika accident and operating costs considerations have lead the operator to prefer a new-built hull, better adapted to offshore operations.

The FPSO is under long-term charter with EXMAR OFFHORE (Belgium); the hull is built by IZAR at FENE shipyard (Spain). The main equipment (turret, production modules, offloading facilities, control and telecoms systems, etc...) are supplied by DORIS Engineering, who is also in charge of the design, supply and installation of the mooring system.
