This paper summarises the latest developments conducted by the Bassin d'essais des carènes in the field of ship structure analysis. The main objective is to take into account the tridimensional hydrodynamic dynamic loading, and to apply it on a 3D finite element model (FEM) of the structure. This calculation procedure, based on the coupled application of a seakeeping code to determine hydrodynamic loads and a structural analysis code, was developed in order to improve the stresses, strains, displacement and fatigue evaluation.
The results generated by this computation procedure are validated against model tests for the hydrodynamic loading and with full scale tests on a frigate for the predicted strain levels.
