Prism: a navigation decision aid fuzzy expert system for ship master

PrISM expert system is an onboard decision aid tool that provides commanding officers with route optimisation under operational and meteorological constraints.
This system allows an increase of human performance in terms of navigation. This is obtained by:
- a decrease of the risks linked to the human factor during complex or extreme situation, .
- a decrease of the human reaction time,
- an increase in navigation accuracy,
- a limitation of the fatigue endured by the ship.
PrISM in particular, provides the onboard operator and the aircraft pilot with the best operational field (roll, pitch, yaw, relative wind on the deck, bending moment, Point of Intended Movement) during launch and recovery..
PrISM optimization algorithms implement fuzzy inferences which allow the simulation of the specific kind of human information processing.
PrISM expert system provides the operators of future merchant ships and warships with a decision aid tool allowing them to conduct a real "weather navigation" and to optimise the working domains of their ship in real time.
