This report set up a state of the art of the ongoing work, at French Shipbuilding Research Institute, about steel structures designs that could be applied to crash protection of double-hulled ship (LNG carriers with prismatic tanks, oil tankers, FPSO). It results in the definition of a general concept of crash protection structure, a validation of finite element models response of steel under shock by comparison with experiments, practical and theoretical laws of similitude that formulate mechanical quantities (forces, strains, energies...) as functions of scale factors.
