Ejection of various devices from a submarine expertise through numerical simulation
Arthur PIQUET, Romain LUQUET - DGA – Techniques hydrodynamiques – Val-de-Reuil (France)
In the submarine field, the ejection of various devices, like missiles, torpedoes or countermeasures is of principal interest in preliminary design simulations in order to ensure a safe navigation of the platform and the seamen on board. Thanks to the development of numerical simulations, it becomes possible to assess risks at the earliest design stage which could not be investigated through model testing or full scale tests. Such simulations imply a huge computational cost due to the necessity to investigate complex phenomena including large trajectory coupled with multiple solid interactions, complex flows, confinement and multiple scale events (turbulence, cavitation).
