Composites hull safety factor actual value evaluation for a sailing boat

A testing program furnished an understanding of the levels of stress to which a hull is subjected whilst under way. Consequently, the minimum safety safety of the area of hull under the most stress may be calculated. Should this factor be expressed in terms of stress, de formation or displacement ? The article reflects upon the concept of safety factor, rupturing criteria in use, mechanical properties dispersion, damage threshold and the fatigue resistance of larninates used in ship building.
