Calculation of the ultimate strength of a FPSO transverse rig and of the induced residual stresses by repairs

The use of used tankers as FPSO can lead to failures or defects, leading to carry out repairs during service, i.e., at sea, which have to be designed in conformity with classification rules.

This paper presents the structural analysis carried out using the finite element method, in nonlinear conditions, in order to assess the ultimate strength of the transverse structure of a FPSO, and the built in stress, generated by the reinforcement of a transverse web frame at sea.
