Launchs of underwater projectiles involve some transient hydrodynamic phenomena that are not well known. The main results presented here concern only the stretching of the gaz cavity trailing behind the projectile base before his collapse into two bubbles. A pure hydrodynamic model provide the essentia1 dimensionless coefficients and is numerically computed. High speed visualisation of the stretching cavity have been realised in a new pressure water facility conceived at IMFL. The complex thermodynamic phenomena in the hot gaz mixture are estimated with a plain model of vapor condensation and they appear as secondary effects.
