Influence of welding effects on the lateral shock strength of ship shell structure

This paper presents some reflections on the experimental behaviour of any assembly of welded thin shell plates, representing the ship hull, under transverse loading through its min.
From the measurement results, the author has derived the importance of welding effects on the strength of such a structure subjected to bending moment and rupture forces.
In respect of theoretical results, the correlation should be obtained through a "coefficient o! experimental flexibility" in linear elastic domain and a "coefficient of experimental rigidity" in non linear elasto-plastic domain.
