High speed craft - Statutory aspect
D. ALLAIN, Ingénieur en Chef des Etudes et Techniques d'Affi1ement Chef du Bureau de la Réglementation Secrétariat d'Etat à la Mer, Direction des Ports et de la Navigation Maritimes
The emergence of new types of high speed ships, such as wave piercing catamarans, for which the weight constitutes an essential factor with regard to their operating mode, requires the extension to these ships of the prescriptions of the Code of safety for dynamically supported craft, adopted by the International Maritime Organization by the Resolution A 373 (X).
To this aim, this Organization has undertaken the elaboration of a new code of regulations whose the scope of application will extend to all the ships so-called high speed craft.. However, from now to its adoption scheduled at the end 1993 at the earliest, it is necessary to adapt the regulations currently in force.
