At the ]989 A,T.M.A. Session, Ifremer presented some thinkings which originated the

development of a computer-aided design software for small ships called HUBLOT, This Software is due for commercial presentation during 1 99 1, Conceived for naval architects and small designing firms it offers a whole set of functions, currently asked for during the designing

process, distributed within two parts:

-the first one gives the designer the possibility , starting from the body plan to digitalize and panel a hull form thus enabling easy access to the stability calculations included; it also permits to prepare the hull form panell1I1g necessary for the hydrodynamic diffraction-radiation and wave resistance computing codes available.

-the second part makes possible a computation of

-statistical evaluations of the hull resistance through methods published

-propeller choice

-trawling gear drag estimation

-rudder area and forces

The work done during the last two years aimed at extending the portability of this software

towards new computer environments while preserving the easiness of use of a graphical user's interface.
