Development logic of the tidal energy convertors fields
Yves P. PICART, DCNS B.U. Énergies Marines Renouvelables
Tidal energy converters development implies the discovery of unknown territories. If some devices explored the bottom of the oceans, a lot of data has to be collected in this environment. In order to run in this environment, and extract the energy, new machines have to be designed. So, new process have to be created with risk assessment and with cost objectives compliant of the electricity market.
DCNS and its subsidiary OpenHydro has shared technological choices which are listed there and which leaded the design improved in Paimpol-Bréhat site.
The industrial development phase looking for the most energetical sites in the world as the Alderney race in front of La Hague site, leads to create new electrical architectures including all the connection devices needed to export high power for farm at a scale around 250 MW. These connection stations should keep the coherence with the invisible sign of the machines and would require underwater technologies in order to be invisible from the surface and the associated deployment means.
