Application of a hydroelastic model to the dynamical behaviour of a flexible cylinder

An aeroelastlc model of the dynamical behaviour of a flexible cylinder is shown. The model is derived from the Basu-Vlckery approach. The fluid structure Interaction is modelled by accounting the vortex-shedding contribution and the forces due to the cylinder motion. The random effects are accounted by the Imperfect correlation of the vortex--shedding .A non-linear damping Is used to take account of the selftimltlng process occurring during the synchronization Phenomenon .The model is applied to the calculation of the response of an elastically mounted cylinder towed at a constant speed In calm water .The performances of the model are discussed by comparing the respective magnitudes of the aero and hydrodynamic coefficients.
