Computer-aided design and hydrodynamics in preliminary fishing boat design
Ph.HORDONNEAU, Direction de l'ingégnierie et de la Technologie, IFREMER Centre de Brest.
Small or larger shipyards are still concerned with the computerization problem.
There are now Ship CAD/CAM softwares for all kinds of computers: micro-computers, workstations or mainframes. Very often the price only
determines the choice of the software.
Answers are finally the sames :
-developers have taken great care of the Design Part: body plan, hull form viewing, graph plot ting, shading. ..
This part is a wonderful promotional tool for the architect, for the
shipyard as well as for the software seller.
-The computer-Aided Manufacturing is the second important part of
the software.
-for all existing softwares, hydrodynamics are reduced to a minimum
if present.
it is often difficult to begin the preliminary ship design with these
tools.
We intend in this paper to show that it is possible to develop a software which will allow the user to begin the preliminary ship design. Hydrodynamics will be the most important part of the package. The software will be on a micro-computer with a modern interface. This is the object of the Fishing Boat Computer-Aided Design Package " HUBLOT" developed at IFREMER (Institut Français de Recherche pour l'Exploitation
de la MER).
