The conception of innovative and high performance fishing vessels in small and medium shipyards requires the scientific and technical support of towing tanks. This support must be well-adapted in time, flexibility and cost. This is one of the functions of the Merchant Ship Department at Bassin d'Essais des Carènes de Paris.
We present here two examp1es of experimental studies performed in Paris with two french shipyards, very different in size and activities
.the "Ateliers et Chantiers du Havre", and the project of a 50 m freezer trawler,
.OCEA and the project of a 21 m catamaran for fishing with passive fishing gear.
With the description of tools used, i11ustrated by video movies, and some tests results, we show that the cooperation between shipyard, ship owner and towing tank allows the validation of innovative forms and improves ship performance at sea.
