Two spectral methods applied to the analysis of the drag forces acting on a vibrating cylinder are presented. The advantages and the drawbacks of each method -that is non parametric ( using discrete Fourier transform coupled with spectral Interpolation) or parametric (working in time domain)-are discussed. The results of the analysis on a theoretical signal are compared and the parametric method Is applied to the calculation of the dominant frequencies of the fluctuating forces acting on a vibrating circular cylinder .
