Contributions to the study of commercial ship routing

The concept of improving the productivity and the safety of ships by adapting their speed and heading to the weather and sea conditions is not new. Nevertheless, more advanced methods are currently available for addressing this sort of problem.

We present here a new approach to commercial ship routing proposed by the Division Navires de Commerce of the Bassin d'Essais des Carènes de Paris. A certain number of preliminary results are published here.
