Gortler vortices and their effect on gas turbine blades

Flow of a boundary layer over a concave wall in certain conditions leads to the generation of longitudinal Görther vortices. Such conditions are met on the pressure side of a gas turbine blade. We report here, the results of an experimental study on the generation and evolution of Görther vortices. We also discuss the effects of these vortices on the transfer phenomena close to the concave surface.
