The study of the local behavior of a cable element assumed to be a portion of a rigid circular cylinder forced to vibrate in transverse direction is performed. The hydrodynamic coefficients useful for the prediction of the whole cable behavior is deduced.
A circular cylinder forced to vibrate moves In a uniform velocity in a fluid at rest In the LHN towing tank bas in. The analysis of the hydrodynamic forces Is performed from a model which is the transposition of the vortex shedding scheme past a circular cylinder simply moving in a uniform velocity on the case of a cylinder moving along a sinusoidal trajectory. The coefficients deduced from the analysis are compared with those usually found In the literature.
