Mechanical and physical studies at normal and high pressures (60 Mpa) on syntactic foam Ftl 280 allowed us to characterize it on the following points :

Density ; water absorption under high pressures; triaxial compressive properties ; compressibility and buoyancy variations; traction, compression, flexural properties ; shok resistance ; etc...

These results and the ability of large bulks implament allow us to assert that the syntactic foam would be of a great interest in building large deep sea vessels (nodule project and PLA 2 engine).
