Submarine vehicle PLA 2

The PLA 2 is a submarine vehicle weighting around 15 metric tons. The overall dimensions are 5 m by 3.2 m, by 2,5 m .This vehicle has been designed to go down like a glider and to be moved on the sea-floor by two Archimeadian screws. It is completely self-contained. (There is no link with its mothership). During its travel all the sensors and actuatars are dependant of an on board electronic pilot. Position fixing is made by an ultrasonic fixing device. Various kinds of pay load can be fitted on the PLA 2 : Nodule dredge able to collect underwater nodules; scientific equipment modules to get a better knowledge of the deep sea ocean. The PLA 2 is a new deep sea vehicle. It has started a lot of original technologies ranging frame structure to electronic equipments. Up to now, it has never been presented in France.
