For its own purposes, the "Direction Technique des Constructions Navales" has selected some aluminium alloys and tested them.

This paper first recalls the completed achievements, then gives the properties of the chosen alloys : tensile strength air and corrosion fatigue strength, toughness; corrosion fatigue and fatigue crack-growth rates, corrosion resistance. Afterwards different processes of post-weld treatment in order to improve their fatigue strength are reported with some tests results. In the last part joining processes between the steed hull and the aluminium alloys superstructures are presented.
