Nucleation influence on the cavitation of marine propellers

It is a matter of common knowledge that cavitation inception strongly depends on the presence in water of weak points, so called cavitation nuclei. The water force air content is an important parameter to take into account in cavitation tests.

This paper describes the experimental facilities used at the Bassin d'Essais des Carènes for measuring the nuclei content. The results obtained in sea water and in the free surface cavitation tunnel are presented as some comments on nuclei injection.
