In the worldwide context of expensive energy, it becomes evident that diesel engine which efficiency is high can help to save money on the fuel side.

Its efficiency can be increased thanks to a noticeable recovery on lost heat so as to make mechanical energy which can be reinjected totally or partially on the shaft.

Several recovery processes can be foreseen. The paper tries to show up to what level it is possible as well now as in a near future.
