The quest for greater safely of marine structures, considered as part of an operational system, particularly under the impels of the actively in underwater resources' recovery, leads the engineer to introduce, step by step, modern procedures and strategies in the design of such structures.
The paper briej1y describes these procedures (according to their “level »), shows their advantages and the problems to be solved for their practical application and inscribes them in a design strategy based on safely evaluation ( an expression which we prefer to that of “risk analysis “) and using logical, deductive or inductive, methods of element trees or .
Examples of application are given.
