The research for energy savings has resulted in solutions which Ive thought interesting to develop in this paper. The chosen block coefficient is very low and the stern lines are designed for a large diameter propeller.

The RPM has been optimised to be the lolvcest acceptable, owing to the utilization of a step doleful geared propulsion unit. The emergency propulsion unit has been designed as a system capable to operate as well as a direct driven alternator or a propelling engine. The arrangement of the accommodation spaces and technical rooms meet the expectations which have been matured by the 0I\11ers during the last years and in particular with a panoramic view wheel

house and an arrangement of the accommodation spaces making human contacts easier. It seemed to us worthwhile to explain the practical application on these ideas : energy savings and quality of life aboard that new generation of container ships.
