Membrane LNG structure resistance in arctic environment
Philippe CAMBOS, BUREAU VERITAS – Division Marine
Alexis CARAUX, BUREAU VERITAS – Division Marine
After recalling the studies performed in the 80s, following the first oil crisis which lead to an evaluation of the gas reserves in the Arctic region and to LNG ice-breaker projects, the today context is considered explaining the réactualisation of the Arctic gas projects. The environmental context is then presented followed by the ship design guides developed by BV with an analysis of the LNG carrier case. A particular study of the structure of a membrane LNG carrier is detailed with the acceptance criteria definition and the obtained results showing that the membrane technique is perfectly adapted for the exploitation of the Arctic gas.
