Inland navy ships support in base harbour
Capitaine de frégate Luc BELLEAU, Etat Major de la Marine
Symposium on the marine pollution regulations until 2012
For many years the Department of Defence has led a proactive environmental policy which is an environment action plan. In the Navy it is carried out through an organization, a blueprint and a dedicated maritime policy.
History and areas of competence and responsibility led by the Navy guide the welcoming policy of ships in port. Indeed, the Navy is port authority, actor in the ship repairing and ship owner / charterer all at once. Consequently, its environmental policy is ruled by a charter set up with the repairing shipyard DCNS, a policy of port infrastructure with regards to environment related IMO conventions
Thus to reduce their environmental operational footprint, and to take into account the operation of ships that meet particular tempos and led to long periods of attendance at the wharf, the shore support of vessels favoured the pooling of elementary operations such as the energy and fluids supply, and collection and recycling of waste and sewage.
These operations are to be developed in the coming years and can be used as a guide for the port authorities and civil ship owners.
