Hydrostatic analysis by direct surface integration: first results and perspectives

Marc POMMELLET, Sistre International – Portaria (Grèce)

Nowadays, hulls being no longer drawn by hand, are the “classical” hydrostatic calculation algorithms (digital transcription of the 2D / stations based manual process) well adapted to the needs of 21st century designers ? Surface modeling having now become the standard hull definition method, adapting the classical hydrostatic algorithms to this new situation appeared as an urgent need: Why returning to a “2D stations” model for hydrostatic calculations when the whole ship surface is available, its direct process being theoretically possible? The MAAT Hydro + project started from this analysis a few years ago and is now entering into its operational step for a few months. This paper introduces this new approach and compares it with the classical one.
