As done on the majority of existing similar vessels, the Mega Yacht « KOGO » is equipped with underwater diesel exhaust outlets. Due to the fact that this yacht is expected to sail in Arctic zones, the usual scoop installed on hull external side in way of exhaust outlet may be crushed by ice pack pressure.

To solve the problem, a specific underwater exhaust outlet without any hull external appendage has been developed. Based on the use of a double profiled spoiler, the totally flush exhaust outlet is an acceptable compromise between creation of low pressure zone in way of the outlet, the counter-pressure limits for the diesel engines, the possible position of outlets with ship rolling angles and engine room arrangement.

Finite element calculations, model tests, construction and sea trial tests have been undertaken respectively, with better results than what was expected, in particular at ship low speed.
