NGV-ASCO – Description of a fast ship adapted to the Mediterranean lines
R. DUSSERT-VIDALET, Directeur Technique de la Société Nationale Maritime Corse Méditerranée
B. GALTIER, Chargé d'Affaires Civiles au Bassin d'Essais des Carènes
The NGV ASCO is a monohull concept, developed by Leroux & Lotz Naval for the french operator Société Nationale Maritime Corse Méditerranée, to ensure fast transportation of passengers and cars betlveen continent and Corsica (566 passengers, 148 cars, desig71 speed 37 knots). As the seakeeping shipO\vner's requirements are very ambitious, the ship is jitted with a new stabilization arrangement and a Ride Control System elaborated by Vosper Thomycroft Q11d Maritime Dynamics Inc.
The hydrodynamics studies have been performed by DCN Bassin d'Essais des Carènes in Paris, and a part subcontracted to the David Taylor Model Basin in Bethesda, with a complete tests and calculation program, including model tests on the stabilization system, with a model especially fltted and self-controlled by active appendages. Part of these tests have been contractllal, to prove the ship respects the seakeeping shipowner requirements.
