The new Marion Dufresne has been delivered by Ateliers et Chantiers du Havre (ACH) on May 10, 1995, to CGM (Owner) and T AAF (Charterer). She replaces the former Marion Dufresne, built by the same shipyard in 1973. This ship is very complex due to the combination of both logistical (passenger and cargo vessel, tanker, container ship, helicopter carrier) and scientifical functions. Based on the successful example of the first Marion Dufresne, her design incorporates many updated features. Hulllines have been designed so as to obtain a good behaviour in the heavy seâs the ship is likely to encounter in her sailing areas. Due to the important scientifical function of the new ship, the shipyard has implemented many devices in order to achieve a low level of noise and vibrations. Moreover, intemal bulkheads and numerous redundant auxiliaries have been designed so as to limit the consequences of any damage occuring far from any possibility of salvage.
