On the 2nd of March !994, a submarine hit a cliff near Cap FeITat.

This incident was seriousness for the safety of the submarine.

Information about the state of the Structures after this incident have been provided..

These were very useful for the ana!ysi.'i of the incilient.

This analysis has been actually made by using a numerical simulation and comparing the damage of the submarine with the results of this simulation.

The numeric code used for this analysis is based on the finite elements menthols.

It shows the way the structures are warped. estimates the energy absorbed by the main structures and other different kind’s of parameters (displacements. velocities, accelerations..).

The following memory is showing the results of the simulation.

These results are in good agreement with the damage observed and make it possible to show the ability of such a numeric collie to calculate the deformations of the structures.

As far as the kinematics parameters are concerned, the calculated movement of the submarine during the collision is also very similar to the real one.

At last, lessons have been learnedly from this .5tudy about the behaviour of the equipment during the collision and the safety of the submarine.
