Analysis of ship collision resistance

Analysis procedures of ship collision resistance are presented with emphasis on the underlying assumptions and the application domains. In the first part, the state of the art, based on experimental and analytical results on absorbed energies during collision, is described by means of a computer pro gram developed at IRCN and illustrated by a numerical example. Then, from the analysis of limitations of these techniques, the formulation of a macro-element method is presented, intermediate between analytical and non linear finite element methods.
