Analysis of the vibratory behaviour of a car ferry-ship by finite element method

The aim of this paper is twofold:

-to perform a critical analysis on the effectiveness of the CETENA procedure for the investigation of the vibratory behaviour of a car ferry ship at its design stage;

-to gain a better knowledge about the characteristics of the numerical model used.

This procedure, based upon finite element application, has been tested for different types of ships.

The modelling aspects treated in this Paper are specifically concerned with the stiffness simulation of the model and with the static condensation algorithm (to reduce the numerical model size).

Parametric investigations are carried out and the results are compared with those obtained by exciter tests.
