Offshore development in arctic zones, hull and superstructures design specificities
Caroline LE FLOC’H, DORIS Engineering
The discovery of new oil and gas fields in the Arctic areas has led to the development of floating supports adapted for drilling, extraction and production in these particularly hostile regions.
The design of the hull of these floating units and the operability of the Superstructures and the surface production equipment shall take into account new constraints linked to these extreme conditions.
The purpose of this paper is to describe the environmental and climatic conditions observed in these areas and their implications on the platform design, concerning the production equipment and surface installations, the hull sizing and hull shapes, as well as the philosophy chosen for the platform disconnection.
In this objective, the present report is based on the development study of the Shtokman offshore gas-condensate field located in the Barents Sea.
