Etude expérimentale des limites d'application de la formule de Morison aux cylindres en accélération uniforme dans un fluide.

The hydrodynamic forces are measured on the middle part of a circular cylinder (L=2m, =0.2m) during a uniformly accelerated motion.

The results illustrate the Influence of the acceleration rate and the relative displacement upon the drag and inertia coefficients of the Morison forn1ula.

These coefficients are nearly constant in a range of the relative displacements for which the upper limit are related to the instantaneous Reynolds number value Beyond this limit. the Reynolds number seems to be the only parameter playing a significant role.

The experiments show that the Initial part of the motion cannot be simulated by the Morison model.
